Kidney donors can
                        expect to recover
                        quickly and
                        completely,

    within 6-8 weeks, and to
    lead normal lives afterwards,
    including having children.

Follow-up research on some of
the 58,000 past living donors
shows that they are just as healthy
as the general population.

They also say
that donating
had a major positive
impact on their lives.

No one is allowed to donate unless the transplant
team thinks it is safe for them. To make sure the
donor can lead a healthy life after donating, their
      health is screened very carefully.
Surgery takes 2- 4 hours. The donor can
usually choose to have the kidney removed
laparoscopically, which makes it possible to
recover and get back to work more quickly than
      previously. More...

The risks are very small. A donor is 10 times more likely to die in a car crash than because of donating a kidney. More than 98% have no serious complications. Only 5% get minor complications, like infection. Everyone has pain after surgery, but it is managed with medication.

Almost every single one says they would do it again!
